Ocean Acidification

What is Ocean Acidification?

Ocean Acidification is the process of the Ocean turning acidic due to the extra dissolving of CO2.

Why is it happening?

When CO2 is dissolved in water, it turns into diffrent things, which you can see in the image above, which releases Hydrogen ions (H+). These increase the water's PH levels.

The extra release of CO2 is causing the ocean to dissolve more of it.

Why does this matter?

Simpily said, the ocean is naturally basic, in pre-industrial levels, it's PH was 8.2. Currently, the Ocean's PH level is around 8, with a 28.8% increase in Hydrogen ions, and in 2100, the PH is estimated to be 7.8 with a 126.5% increase in Hydrogen ions.
