
What is PTSD?
PTSD is a mental health issue caused by a horrifying event - seeing or being part of it.
What are the symptoms of PTSD?
PTSD has many symptoms, but there are a few common symptoms:
- Intrusive memories
- Repeating distressing memories of the event
- Flashbacks
- Dreams/nightmares about traumatic event
- Severe emotional distress or physical reactions to something that reminds you of the event
- Avoidance
- Trying to avoid talking/thinking about the event
- Avoiding places, avtivities or people that remind you of the traumatic event
- Negative mental changes
- Negative thoughts about people
- Hopelessness about the future
- Memory problems
- Difficulty maintaining relationships
- Feeling detached from other people
- Lack of intrest in enjoyed activities
- Difficulty feeling positive
- Feeling emotionless
- Reactional changes
- Being easily frightned
- Always being aware of danger
- Self-distructive behaviors
- Trouble sleeping & concentrating
- Irritability
- Overwhelming guilt or shame
These symptoms may not occur for years, and they vary from person to person.Am I vulnerable? How do I get treated when I get PTSD?
Everyone is vulnerable, due to the cause. However, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy can treat PTSD.
